Folklore of Mr Cuoi & Ms Hang Nga

The Entourage

This morning Team Vietlish & Co. bombarded the streets of Cabramatta with their dodgey film production of the retelling of a Chinese/ Vietnamese folklore Mr Cuoi & Ms Hang Nga, of course, the contemporary version.

This version, is slightly different (slightly is an understatement), based on the story of a very poor farmer husband who had his cries of help answered by as the Western culture’s pop equivalent Fairy Godmother – Ms Apple (previously featured in an earlier vietlish clip). Annoyed by this earthly plead, she grants him a “magical tree” which has special powers that will make you rich.

Excited, he rushes home to his wife and pretty soon they were living the high life – dressed as Kings and Queens and equipment with their entourage Men in Black.

Of course, good things don’t last forever, and pretty soon they lose the tree because Cuoi’s silly wife dropped it into the toilet (originally the tree cannot stand dirty water). It began to uproot itself and travels into the sky. Cuoi travels with it, in attempt to hold it back down on earth, but flies away and ends up on the moon.

Check this clip at the 2009 Moon Festival! 27 Sept, 2009 @ Nine Network Stage, top of John St, Cabramatta.
