Via ICE, I received 4 complimentary tickets to go check out "Up in the Air" and its preview screening before it launches in the cinemas in January next year. Myself, Andy Minh Trieu, Steve Ada & Marie Setiawan met at the space at 6.15pm to enjoy some light refreshments, alcohol and mingling with the intimate gathering.
"Up In the Air" Review
This film made me think twice about wanting to become an "Alpha Chick" not so long ago.
It couldn't have been explored better with the bizzare protagonist Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) and his wifeless, childless and practically homeless – he spends 320 days a year on the road and has a fetish of frequent flyer points. On top of that, he professionally fires people for a living and occasionally gives motivational speeches urging people to "empty their backpacks" and avoid commitment.
But then again, his world of luxury hotels and airline life – and a hot frequent flier girlfriend (Vera Farmiga) with whom he casuals it with and asks for nothing more – is quite possibly a guys dream.
Somethings don't last forever, and Ryan begins to reconnect with family, grow in "love" for his casual girlfriend, only to find out that she was never meant to be with him (married with children and living an alter ego).
Its a sad lifestyle, one this film has taught me never to go down.
"Up in the Air" will be at the movies on January, 14, 2010.
