Venue: 22 Addison Rd, Marrickville.
All day Sunday I spent at the “Team 11” rehearsals. I joined in and the other acting colleagues are revving up with character breakdowns and back story development. I play the young, naïve Asian girl named “Amanda”, a girl who has issues with relating to other people. She’s shy, quite and just hates being in the spotlight. The other team member’s personality really contrast hers, and adds dimension to this story of a bunch of oddball netball player wannabes and their plight to make it to the top.
Craig Anderson (who will be directing this) is always a great person to work with. He is patience and very nurturing. My acting skills have only been “guerrilla” (either from experience or from reading bits and pieces here and there) so to be put with actors who have done the hard yards of extensive training in theatre and NIDA, well it did freak me out a bit. That is why rehearsals were much needed and not only just for the script, but also for the character development.
Craig put us all through meditation, visualisation and hypothetical scenarios that our character would react to.
I also enjoyed my first game of indoor netball in the studio. We taped a milk crate to a ladder and “gamed on!”. Good times.
I’ve got about 15 more rehearse dates to fulfil (I also use it as my acting training) before we start shooting.
