After packing out to a full house last year, ShortCuts, Western Sydney’s only short film
festival for young people is bigger and better!
ShortCuts is proud to be part of the NSW Youth Week celebrations in Western Sydney and will
take place on Saturday 10thth April as part of the youth week festivities.
An initiative of PYT, presented with the Information and Cultural Exchange, ShortCuts is now in
its 6th year and is looking forward to showcasing young filmmakers from the across the west.
This year ShortCuts is excited to have the award winning director Luke Eve who grew up in
Western Sydney as one of the judges. Other judges Include Kris Wyld, Producer of the AFI
winning show East West 101, Veronica Gleeson, Development Officer at Screen NSW and
Karen Pearlman ( Editor and Head of Screen Studies at the AFTRS).
Shortcuts is open to films that have been made by young people 25 years and under, who live,
work or study in Western Sydney. The films cannot be longer than 7 minutes and cast and crew
also need to have a connection to Western Sydney.
Festival Director, Tresa Ponnor says “ShortCuts is about showcasing stories from Western
Sydney and has been the springboard for many young people to establish themselves as
filmmakers”. Take Maria Tran, winner of Shortcuts 08 for instance. Maria produced and acted in
the ABC mini series Downtown Rumble. Maria currently works as the Youth Digital Cultures
Project Co-Ordinator at the Information Cultural Exchange whilst working on developing her
feature documentary and TV series.
The deadline for submissions is 5pm, Friday 26th March. To obtain an entry form phone PYT on 9724 6077, email shortcuts@pyt.com.au or visit shortcuts.pyt.com.au to be in the running to win some fantastic prizes such as $1000 cash prize for best film donated by the International Film School, Sydney. Other prizes include Metroscreen vouchers, $1000 worth of DVD’s from Madman and many more!
