FREE ticket give-away to see “Eye of the Sun” at the Dendy Opera Quays

Thursday morning and I’m at my workplace driven to stuff hundreds of envelopes with the 2009 Arab Film Festival flyers to our awaiting ICE database. To back track a bit, earlier this year, the 2009 Sydney Arab Festival was launched at Riverside Theatres, Parramatta. I got the chance to watch Captain Abu Raed, the opening film of the night and such a great selection as well. Managed by ICE (my cutting edge workplace) and powered by head honchos Mouna Zaylah & Fadia Abboud, it is such an inspiration to see these two busy bees work at such an event that aims to express diversity in on screen storytelling in this country - Australia.

Thus, it is even more exciting to see, for the first time, the Arab Film Festival voyaging beyond the borders of Western Sydney and across Australia to Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Adelaide.

Right now, I have 5 tickets to give-away to anyone to watch “Eye of the Sun”, the film that will launch the national tour on the 1st November, 2009 at the Dendy Opera Quays at 7pm. Just email me back at maria.tran85@gmail.com with your name, & contact number. Tickets going to the first people who email!

Eye of the Sun / Ein Shams

Egypt | 2008 | 90 mins | Dir: Ibrahim El Batout

Shams is a playful, inquisitive 11-yearold, who dreams of travelling to downtown Cairo. Her teacher, Fatma, pours scorn on the idea, and her father, the beleaguered taxi driver and part-time chauffeur Ramadan to shady businessman Selim Bey (Boutros Boutros-Ghali), has no time to indulge his daughter. El-Batout’s poignant tale weaves drama and documentary to journey through modern day Egypt.

Winner of the The Golden Hawk, Rotterdam Festival, 2008
