Today I blocked out the whole 11 hours for some production assistant and work on the set of "Behind Mansion Walls" and being shadowed by Assistant Director - Serena Hunt. I met Serena a couple of years ago when she was producing TV Series "Fat Pizza". Since then she's moved on to producing TV Series "Swift and Swift Couriers" amongst other things. She's on the the ball, a trait I love about this woman. I was drooling on set following her around and watching her skills bounce off film director James Knox.
I love being on set and being saturated with all the learnings that you can cram in. It's like a to a food buffet - minus the food but rich in learning experience. I think one thing I admire on this set is the amount of ESP an respectful level of corporation between the units. I had moments of daydreaming - what will a future Maria Tran set will be like? A good film set is like good customer service, I think and while youth on my side, I wanna focus and sharpen whatever tools I got (sharpener please!).
Oh did I tell you the set was done in the period of the 80s? All the large frocks, earrings, shoulderpads, hairstyles and talk about the bling.
My role was pretty cruisy and monotonous. Just an acting as a high roller's servant waitress. Doing countless takes has given me the dead arm of serving cold finger foods that kept getting picked up and put back in between takes. But hey, it was a good time absorbing what was going on, and jumping between acting and production assistant gave me multiple perspectives in the filmmaking process.
Oh, forgot to tell you what "Behind Mansion Walls" was all about. From what I gathered, it was based on the trial of James Sullivan, a high roller millionaire and the murder of his wife "Lolita".
Far out, it's 4.44pm and I'm beginning to fall alseep. I've got a business venture meeting at 7pm and I hope I can stay awake for it.
