It was a good Sunday with my parkour pal Ali Kadhim and new found friends emerging action star Hankav Manav (looks like a mini Van Damme) and his lovely and bubbly partner, Katrina Phathanak watching the internationally acclaimed Mulan Theatre Show at the State Theatre.
Chongqing Acrobatic Art Troupe did a spectacular show a with back-to-back showcase of some really wicked and unimaginable acrobatics, so much that I had to nudge Ali that what I was witnessing was not tampered with CGI or special effects.
Watching this made me recollect my readings of Jackie Chan: My Life In Action back last month ago while I was at B & E Production in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. Jackie Chan's Chinese Peking Opera days were gruelling.
To reach a level of accuracy and perfection, these people would have to endure something like a 5am-12am hard (often life threatening) training regime, day in, day out for like 10 or more years. Think about the amount of sheer collectivistic thinking one must go through, and the amount of sacrifice one has to make.
But they did have a team, of brothers and sisters whom they trust and through thick and thin, continue to stick together to deliver something of unimaginable proportions.
Then I thought about myself. Who do I call to in my team? After 6 months of instability, I've encountered a number of things, people close who move away, while those that I would never imagine, come so close to me as never before to back me up through my downtimes. I feel a sense of elation of such great friendships I've have at my disposal and such visionary people who are natural born leaders who are on the same path.
I value friendships. As much as I'm so detached in other areas of my life, good friends is something I look forward to. I admire people who are optimistic, and are striving for positivity in all areas of life. People who understand the universe's errie system of "what goes around comes around". If people chose to put negative words, thoughts and actions out there, the same will come back.
I strive to build on my team and networks as well. With my insights in the HK/ China Film Industry, I hope to get the mob in Australia excited about film, culture, art and life and, in due time, this country will be buzzing with cutting-edge projects that other productions in the world would want to connect with.
Question to reflect: Who do you have on your team?
